Would you like to see the real Hungarian plain, which has inspired Sándor Petőfi himself so many times?
Visit Bugacpuszta, one of the most famous Hungarian plains – where tradition and views can be found together in a pristine environment.
Our Plain Program takes place entirely in the Kiskunság National Park.
Our program offers for school trips:
10:00 a.m. Arriving at Karikás Csárda, Bugacpuszta
The venue of the show is 1.5 km from the entrance to the Kiskunság National Park!
This distance can be travelled by horse carriage or on foot.
The carriage ride starts from the entrance of Karikás Csárda.
Our journey to the horse show leads through the endless plain. Along the way we have the opportunity to see the shepherd’s buildings (cheese storage, food wheelbarrow, wattle enclosure). An outstanding attraction is the conical structure of the Shepherd Museum, whose new exhibition with spectacular elements commemorates extensive animal husbandry. The exhibition place in Bugac was built in 1975 according to the plans of József Kerényi, reminiscent of dry mills in the Great Plain. The free-standing building in the wilderness can now be considered a valuable architectural monument, reflecting the architectural line of the 70s, thus becoming an iconic building of the landscape. In the main thematic unit of the museum, the vanished shepherd’s world comes to life: a bunny reed hut, a food wheelbarrow, a coat of arms, shepherd figures, wattle enclosure, racka, kuvasz, various tools reminiscent of the old times.
A short walk from the museum leads to our Indigenous Zoo, where you can see a pretty unusual group of animals! Among others, it provides home for the grey cattle, Racka sheep, mangalicas, Speckled Hungarian chicken, Naked Neck chicken and Crested chicken, Hungarian ducks, turkeys and, of course, the yellow Bugac stud, the Kisbér half-breed. Ancient Hungarian breed Komondor and our Kuvasz are new inhabitants of our park.
Our guests could try their hand at horseshoe pitching while the younger guests are able to pet some ponies!
12.00 p.m., Horse show, the program of which is:
– with Hungarian, German and English presentation –
- Stud Presentation
- Horse herders procession
- The show of the Puszta Five
- Skill show by the horsemen: Horse laying and sitting, Puszta armchair, Test of strengths, sitting down at the table, Cracking the whip, Mother-in-law beating and horsemen competitions.
- A show by Anti the donkey
- Bugac stud galloping
After the program, our guests can experience the life of the horsemen such as sitting on horses’ without a saddle!
If a carriage ride is included in the ticket purchased, the ride will leave to the Karikás Csárda from the stables.
12:45 p.m. Carriage ride back to Karikás Csárda.
1:00 p.m. Lunch at Karikás Csárda

Our school trip program can be expanded with additional program elements:
● A walk through the study trails of the Kiskunság National Park, the designated hiking routes can be changed freely.
